The Project

In March 2002 Afriso Eurogauge were awarded the contract by BAE Systems Marine to design and supply the Royal Navy’s six new T45 air defence destroyers with tank and draught gauging systems. These systems fully control and monitor all onboard liquids such as fuel oils, aviation fuels, potable water and waste waters.

 

The Solution

The original brief was to provide this generation of ships with a combination of commercially available (COTS) indicators and detectors working in combination with a bespoke control system.

This in turn had to interface with the fully computerised control system of the ship to ensure that  performance is maintained under the most arduous conditions.

Extensive shock, EMC and vibration tests were carried out on our equipment in order to meet the high standards applicable to the T45 unique design.

In addition to the main contract we have worked together with BAE Systems Marine to find solutions to level, pressure and temperature applications where normal commercial products may not meet the demands of the modern Navy.

 

The Result

The T45 contract has provided an opportunity for the Afriso Group to show the broadness and diversity of our products applicable to the marine industry.

Years of experience gained on aircraft carriers HMS Ark Royal,  HMS Illustrious,Type 22 frigates and LCU 10 landing craft allowed us to propose and supply tried and tested equipment that had already met the highest standards in terms of accuracy, reliability and practical application.

Achieving these standards now means that our equipment is a recognised standard for the Royal Navy.

HMS Daring, first of class, is now built and has undertaken extensive sea trials with our control systems in place.
